Southwest Ranches estate once owned by Mexican pop icon Juan Gabriel hits market for $39M

A sprawling Southwest Ranches estate that once belonged to the late Mexican pop star Juan Gabriel hit the market for $38.9 million.

The 23,500-square-foot property at 13920 Stirling Road is asking $1,660 per square foot. It’s one of the priciest listings in West Broward history, the Miami Herald reported.

The nearly 10-acre compound sits within the equestrian and residential neighborhood Sunshine Ranches and has six structures, according to the listing. It includes a five-bedroom, six-and-a-half bathroom main residence, a guest house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a standalone clubhouse, a standalone gym and spa, a seven-stall barn, a 10,500-square-foot NBA-level basketball facility and a four-car garage with lift space for eight cars. The property features pools, koi ponds, murals and orchards.

The basketball gym is currently used by a nonprofit basketball program, the outlet said. It has professional flooring, locker rooms, a viewing balcony, conference space and a smoothie bar, but it could be repurposed for other uses.

The clubhouse has a bar, theater and gaming stations, while the wellness center includes a gym, tanning bed and cold plunge. A tiki pavilion has a bar, grills and TVs.

Angeline Earnest of Coldwell Banker Realty and Tommy Crivello of Tommy Crivello Real Estate Group had the listing.

“This whole place feels like a resort,” Earnest told the newspaper. “You feel like you stepped into a vacation.”

Property records show the seller is an entity linked to Seth Cohen, co-founder of Deerfield Beach-based Insurance Care Direct. Cohen paid $9 million for the property in 2022 and made extensive improvements, the outlet said.

Juan Gabriel, the Latin pop icon known as “El Divo de Juárez,” bought the estate for $1.3 million in 1995, according to Homes.com. He transferred the property to his son, Iván Gabriel Aguilera, in 2014, two years before he died at the age of 66. The property became the subject of several lawsuits after other family members questioned the transfers and the handling of the estate, the newspaper reported.

Gabriel, whose legal name was Alberto Aguilera Valadez, was one of the most prolific singer-songwriters in Mexican music history. He was a six-time Grammy Awards nominee, and he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was also inducted into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame in 1996. He sold more than 150 million albums, according to Universal Music Group. Top hits include “Querida,” “Amor Eterno” and “Abrázame Muy Fuerte.”

Southwest Ranches is a celebrity magnet, drawing athletes, singers and supermodels looking for space and privacy. Last month, former Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill listed his Southwest Ranches estate for $7.7 million. Other high-profile buyers with real estate in the town include Gisele Bündchen, Flo Rida and Udonis Haslem.
