Verizon Visa® Card Review – 4% on Groceries, Gas, and Dining for Verizon Customers

Verizon Visa Card
Our Rating
4.3/5

Verizon Visa® Card

  • Best for: Verizon wireless and Fios customers who plan to stay; households that spend heavily on groceries, gas, and dining
  • What Sets It Apart: Uncapped 4% in Verizon Dollars; statement credits at $1 per Verizon Dollar; the only credit card that qualifies for Verizon’s Auto Pay discount
  • Cost: $0 annual fee; no foreign transaction fee; 22.24%, 27.24%, or 33.24% variable purchase APR
  • Features: 4% on groceries, gas, electric vehicle charging, restaurants, and Verizon devices and accessories; 1% on the Verizon bill and everything else; $150 statement credit after one purchase in the first 90 days; two free TravelPass days a year
  • Pros: No cap on the 4% categories; rewards usable as statement credits; Auto Pay discount on a credit card
  • Cons: Verizon customers only; unused Verizon Dollars forfeited when you leave Verizon; 1% outside the 4% categories; big-box grocery purchases may not earn 4%

Synchrony Bank issues the card, and you can apply only as the owner of a Verizon wireless or Fios account or as an account manager the owner has added to a wireless account. Prepaid and business accounts don’t qualify.

Key Features

  • No annual fee and no foreign transaction fee
  • 4% in Verizon Dollars on groceries, gas, electric vehicle charging, restaurants, and Verizon devices and accessories; 1% on the Verizon bill and everything else
  • Verizon Dollars that pay your Verizon bill, buy devices and accessories, or come off the card’s balance as statement credits, $1 for $1
  • $150 statement credit after one purchase in the first 90 days, for applicants approved by January 13, 2027
  • Variable purchase APR of 22.24%, 27.24%, or 33.24%

Pros

  • 4% with no cap on groceries, gas, and dining, so $500 a month on them earns $240 a year, twice the $120 a 2% flat-rate card pays
  • Rewards you can take as statement credits, not just spend at Verizon
  • The only credit card that qualifies for Verizon’s Auto Pay discount of up to $10 a month per line
  • Two free days of TravelPass, Verizon’s international day pass, each year (a $24 value) when you apply through a wireless account

Cons

  • Unused Verizon Dollars are forfeited the moment you cancel your last Verizon line or Fios service, and the card stops earning
  • Only 1% on the Verizon bill and on everything outside the 4% categories
  • Groceries bought at Walmart, Target, and other big-box stores may not earn 4%
  • No cell phone protection, purchase protection, or extended warranty

Verizon customers who plan to stay should use it for groceries, gas, dining, and the Verizon bill on Auto Pay, and take the Verizon Dollars as statement credits each month, so leaving Verizon later would forfeit little.

Anyone who might switch carriers should choose a no-fee cash back credit card instead, since its rewards don’t depend on a phone plan.
