A company tied to restaurateur Stephen Starr paid $13 million for a waterfront home in Miami Beach.
Property records show Souheil Salloum Chamaa and Myrna Domit sold their five-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom home on Pine Tree Drive to a Philadelphia LLC linked to Starr’s hospitality company. The 4,700-square-foot house, built in 1924, sits on a quarter acre.
Compass’ Nancy Batchelor had the listing, while Daniel Hysa, also with Compass, represented the buyer. Batchelor declined to comment.
The Mediterranean-style house, which includes a pool and dock, hit the market last year for $14.9 million. Even though Chamaa and Domit sold the property under the asking price, their investment paid off: They paid $1.6 million for it in 2001.
The purchase likely marks Starr’s first home in Miami Beach. The Philadelphia-based restaurateur operates more than 40 restaurants in New York, South Florida, Nashville, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. In South Florida, Starr’s concepts include Pastis in Wynwood with co-owner Keith McNally, Makoto in Bal Harbour, Steak 954 in Fort Lauderdale, and a Pastis planned in West Palm Beach, according to the company’s website.
Starr’s El Vez in Fort Lauderdale closed recently and is being replaced by a Motek.
Starr Restaurant Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In 2021, Star paid $3.5 million for a 6,400-square-foot, five-bedroom townhouse near the Philadelphia Museum of Art, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Pine Tree Drive has seen fewer high-priced sales than other parts of Miami Beach. Last year, pollster Mark Penn and his wife, Nancy Jacobson, paid $17.5 million to acquire the waterfront mansion south of Starr’s, at 5785 Pine Tree Drive. In 2024, billionaire Teddy Sagi paid $23.8 million for a waterfront teardown at 4521 Pine Tree Drive.
The luxury real estate market across South Florida’s coastal cities has been unseasonably active this summer. In addition to wealthy transplants from the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast, a number of homeowners are also adding to their compounds by buying homes next door or across the street.
