Silicon Valley titan Andreessen Horowitz is planting a flag in Florida’s fast‑growing defense‑tech corridor, announcing plans to establish a regional headquarters for its American Dynamism fund in downtown West Palm Beach. The move places one of the world’s largest venture firms at the center of a region and a state emerging as a national hub for aerospace, defense, and mission‑driven innovation.
The $1.176 billion fund will operate out of CityPlace Tower, a Class AA office building owned by Related Ross. The headquarters will serve as the firm’s base on Florida’s Gold Coast, an area stretching from Palm Beach to Miami‑Dade counties.
American Dynamism backs companies that support the national interest, investing in sectors such as defense, aerospace, industrials, supply chains, public safety, housing, and education. As new defense‑innovation clusters emerge across the country, the firm says it is expanding beyond traditional tech hubs to invest closer to where these companies are being built. The West Palm Beach office will support nationwide dealmaking while deepening ties with founders, business leaders, defense organizations, and research institutions across South Florida.
“It is critical for our fund to have a presence wherever ambitious founders are tackling consequential problems,” said Katherine Boyle, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz and co-founder of the American Dynamism practice, in a statement. “Florida’s Gold Coast has become one of the most important places in the country where that work is happening. Our decision to establish a regional headquarters in West Palm Beach reflects our belief that many of tomorrow’s breakthrough American Dynamism companies will be built here in Florida. We want to be on the ground alongside the founders building them.”
Florida ranks fourth nationally in Department of War spending and is home to three of the nation’s eleven unified combatant commands and 21 major military installations. That concentration of customers, technical expertise, and mission‑driven operators has helped fuel a broader ecosystem spanning aerospace, space technology, advanced manufacturing, and logistics, all sectors closely aligned with American Dynamism’s investment priorities.
The tri-county South Florida region has also attracted a number of startups and larger companies in the defense tech and dual use sector in recent years, including Palantir, Ampera, Space-Eyes, Zulu Pods, MATERIAL, D-Wave and Magnet Defense.
Within the state, the Gold Coast has emerged as a focal point for dual‑use and defense‑tech entrepreneurship. Related Ross has played a central role in convening the region’s business, technology, and national‑security leaders, hosting events such as the Wall Street Journal Invest Live conference and the Defense Tech Leadership Summit in partnership with AWS and Vanderbilt University. Both conferences will return to West Palm Beach in early 2027.
The region’s talent pipeline is also expanding. Related Ross is a founding partner of the Florida Council of 100’s Ambition Accelerated accelerator, which includes a dual‑use and defense‑tech track with eMerge Americas. Vanderbilt University’s planned graduate campus in West Palm Beach could further strengthen engineering, defense, manufacturing, and space‑tech capabilities.
Related’s Chairman and CEO Stephen Ross courted a16z to come to West Palm, the Wall Street Journal reported.
