When Igor Dobrianskyi, founder of MyMonthlyCar, was living in Vynnitsia, Ukraine, he became aware that there was no local car rental company. A tourist, visitor or someone temporarily without wheels needed to go to Kiev. He saw a niche and started SizeCar in 2016, buying his own cars to start with. Still, he realized that buying more and more cars was capital intensive, so he decided to match the car-needy with those willing to rent out their vehicles. He walked the sidewalks, interviewing between 200 and 300 people. About 30 percent agreed to rent out their personal vehicles.
“In entrepreneurship, persistence is everything,” he said. The company took off. Then Russia invaded Ukraine and Dobrianskyi and his family moved to Florida. His idea came with him and was transformed into MyMonthlyCar, exchanging peer-to-peer for dealers’ used car inventory to populate its rental fleet. The company has now been selected to pitch during the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield 200 during the mid-October TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco.
Dobrianskyi has a master’s degree from Ukraine’s Ternopil Academy of National Economy, with a focus on business economics and also completed Harvard Business School’s Launching Tech Ventures online program.
His idea to approach dealerships came after the move to South Florida when the family was looking for a car. As he shopped – and asked questions – he learned that dealers’ used car inventory had a limited shelf life, and if not typically sold within several months, would go to auction. The bones of MyMonthlyCar came together.
He began visiting dealerships – more than 45 in South Florida to date – to propose that they raise revenue from their used cars by renting them out under the MyMonthlyCar system. “From my perspective it is a good opportunity,” he said. “We filled the gap between short-term rentals and long-term lease.”
They now have seven dealerships on board. Monthly rental prices range from $700 for a 2019 Kia Forte to $3,500 for a 2025 Tesla Cybertruck. Renters also typically have the option to buy the rental. There are about 78 cars now available on the site.
MyMonthlyCar takes a 20 percent commission fee per monthly booking – 10 percent from the renter and 10 percent from the host of the rental. Developing across-the-board insurance options are underway.
The company, co-founded by Kostiantyn Gitko, CPO, and Vadym Zotov CTO, is headquartered at the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation, where Dobrianskyi also participated in the Levan Center’s Ideate, Incubate, and Accelerate Programs for entrepreneurs.
MyMonthlyCar’s seven employees are all currently based in Ukraine. More than $70,000 of the founders’ money formed the initial investment. They are now raising a $500,000 pre-seed round through a SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity), with investments starting at $50,000 and a 20 percent discount. The funds are being used for engineering, product development and the insurance program, a key part of building the platform, Dobrianskyi said.
Still, TechCrunch is a major milestone and the opportunity means putting their ideas before investors, fellow entrepreneurs and potential new partners. “Meeting other founders, hearing their stories, and learning from them is something I’m genuinely excited about,” he said. “Being selected for Startup Battlefield 200 already feels like an important validation of what we’re building, and I want to make the most of the experience.”
Meanwhile, on a more prosaic level, business growth plans are underway.
“We want to expand nationwide,” he said. Next up: Texas. “They have a lot of dealerships in Texas.”
