Larry Ellison secretly bought homes for his staff near Manalapan compound

Billionaire Oracle founder Larry Ellison quietly bought eight homes for members of his staff in a Boynton Beach neighborhood that’s about a 30-minute drive from his sprawling Manalapan compound.

The transactions totaled nearly $10 million, the Wall Street Journal first reported. The deals closed within days of each other in May and June 2023, many on unlisted homes. The buyer in every case was an Ellison-linked LLC with a California address.

The houses, in the Palm Meadows Estates community, were for Ellison’s household staff, including tutors for his children. The neighborhood is west of Manalapan, the island south of Palm Beach where Ellison dropped $173 million on a 16-acre compound.

Ultra-wealthy buyers are increasingly buying up neighboring parcels of land in a trend known as “landmaxxing.” That land can be used for privacy, future expansions, and in some cases, for staff.

The homes Ellison purchased are well-kept, with trim lawns and landscaping, neighbors told the newspaper. Several had electric-car chargers for Teslas installed shortly after their purchase.

Some homeowners in the neighborhood opposed the idea that one person could own multiple houses in the community, and the HOA later created a rule to prevent it from happening again.

Homes in Palm Meadows Estates are listed in the million-dollar range. The gated community sits next to a thoroughbred training facility and has 24-hour security. Its website describes it as a “serene family community” with 288 luxury homes.

Ellison expanded his Manalapan compound with a $34.4 million purchase of 2.2 acres next door earlier this year. He also paid $30 million for the 254.2-acre Lion County Safari drive-thru animal sanctuary in western Palm Beach County last year, and he dropped $277.4 million on the Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa in Manalapan in 2024.
