Three construction workers fell from a cherry picker at the project site for the oceanfront Perigon Miami Beach on Friday afternoon.
The workers, who were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, fell about 20 feet just before 2:50 p.m. at the site at 5333 Collins Avenue, WPLG reported.
Coconut Grove-based Mast Capital, led by Camilo Miguel Jr., is the developer of the 72-unit, 17-story building, alongside its partner Starwood Capital Group.
Construction began last year, after the joint venture closed on a $390 million loan from Eldridge Real Estate Credit. Records show Moss & Associates is the general contractor.
The development is expected to be completed next year. It was designed by Rem Koolhaas’ OMA, and will include a private beach club, oceanfront pools with cabanas and a fitness center. Douglas Elliman was tapped to lead sales when the project launched in 2022.
The Perigon is next to the Amethyst, an older condo building that’s been tied up in a litigious condo buyout with Mast for years.
Earlier this month, farther north in Miami Beach, a construction worker was injured after a partial collapse of the façade at a Witkoff building at 7430 Ocean Terrace in North Beach. The construction worker was sent to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
That two-story building was constructed in 1951 and was a motel/hotel with 39 units. The subcontractor was Icon Group Contractors and was working on concrete remediation and reinforcement of the façade in preparation of shoring, public records show.
In September, four people were injured when a drill rig collapsed on the site at 1201 Brickell Bay Drive in Miami, where crews are working on the planned 54-story, 1.7 million-square-foot office building that will house billionaire Ken Griffin’s Citadel and Citadel Securities. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating that collapse, but Miami-Dade County lifted a stop-work order earlier this month.
