Data loss prevention gets a second act as AI rewrites an old security problem

Security vendors are rebuilding data loss prevention, or DLP, around contextual understanding rather than pattern matching — and AI-powered DLP is giving the category’s most stubborn unsolved problem a second act. Decades of rule-based DLP tools left security teams buried in alerts they could not act on, and the arrival of generative AI has both widened the risk surface and supplied the means to narrow it.

That shift is playing out through partnerships as much as products, as platform companies and cloud providers lean on accelerator programs to surface startups that fill gaps in their portfolios. Israeli startup Jazz emerged from stealth in March with $61 million in funding and went on to be named winner of the 2026 Cybersecurity Startup Accelerator from CrowdStrike Holdings Inc. and Amazon Web Services Inc., supported by Nvidia Corp. through its Inception program, according to Ido Livneh (pictured, left), co-founder and chief executive officer of Jazz Inc.

“We didn’t build yet another pattern match or another rule-based system,” Livneh said. “We completely upturned the whole challenge with our approach, which is building an investigator, a context-first, business-first investigator that understands your business, understands not only what is happening with the data flows, but why it’s happening, the intent, and solving it through that.”

Livneh, along with Daniel Bernard (right), chief business officer of CrowdStrike, and CJ Moses (center), chief information security officer and vice president of security engineering at Amazon.com Inc., spoke with theCUBE at Fal.Con 2026, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the accelerator program, ecosystem economics and how security teams should measure exposure in the AI era. (* Disclosure below.)

Why AI-powered DLP is landing on the platform

Judging the accelerator gave the sponsors a way to vet nearly 1,000 startups against gaps in their own stacks, rather than flying small teams out to meet a few dozen founders at a time, according to Moses. Data protection was one of those gaps, and one with a long record of disappointment.

“In my experience, DLP providers have never done what DLP actually, the acronym, stands for. They’ve never done the data loss prevention,” Moses said. “With basically AI now being a thing that actually will allow you to be able to deal with the large scale of the information and how they’ve implemented was kind of game changing for us.”

Jazz’s agentic investigator, Melody, is now available as an application on CrowdStrike’s Falcon Foundry, the marketplace and development environment where customers build their own agents. The ecosystem tie has sharply accelerated Jazz’s business, Livneh pointed out.

“Since winning, that’s just only a quarter and a half ago, we more than doubled our book of business,” Livneh said. “We almost tripled our revenue. We 5x our inbound leads, we 10x our pipeline.”

Bernard framed that as deliberate strategy rather than charity. Chief information security officers manage about 70 tools on average, and consolidation pressure is real, but no single platform will absorb the rest, he explained.

“We’re not here to take that number from 70 to one. That’s not the game we’re playing,” Bernard said. “Security’s not a winner-take-all market, and any vendor that says I’m going to replace all your other vendors, probably not true. What is true is you gotta be open and let the customer choose.”

AI-powered DLP is one instance of a broader reset in how fast defenders must move, according to Moses. Defenders’ response windows have collapsed — CrowdStrike’s “2026 Global Threat Report” found the average eCrime breakout time fell to 29 minutes, with the fastest observed intrusion occurring in just 27 seconds — and exposure time is now the metric that matters.

“The AI that you’re using today is the worst AI you’ll ever use. It’ll always be getting better,” he said. “Security through obscurity is dead. Now you need to focus on being able to do things in a short period of time, the shortest period of time possible. And if you don’t, others will find it for you.”
