Discovery Land Company is doubling down on South Florida, tapping a luxury real estate veteran to lead its growing roster of residential projects with private clubs in the region.
The Arizona-based developer, led by Mike Meldman, appointed Alicia Goldstein as president of the Eastern United States, a new position that will oversee its pipeline of high-rise condo developments with private club amenities on the coast, including projects in Jupiter, Miami and West Palm Beach.
Her appointment, which will establish the company’s first corporate presence on the East Coast, comes as Discovery anchors its high-rise expansion with projects in South Florida, where the region’s growing appeal as a primary-residence market and demand for wellness-focused living are fueling development.
Goldstein said South Florida presents an opportunity to bring the Discovery brand to the waterfront, where horizontal stretches of land are scarce. She said demand for Discovery’s South Florida projects will be driven in part by residents across the company’s roughly 40 communities.
“If they’ve been interested in Florida and they are looking at waterfront communities or more vertical living with the same Discovery lifestyle, they’re going to be really excited,” she told The Real Deal. “I think a lot of people think of Discovery as a golf community, and it’s really a lifestyle community.”
Discovery debuted on Florida’s east coast with Atlantic Fields, a 1,500-acre project in Hobe Sound with 317 single-family homes, an 18-hole golf course, equestrian facilities, a farm and other wellness amenities. It was developed in partnership with Becker Holding Corporation.
Goldstein has more than 25 years of experience in luxury residential and mixed-use real estate, hospitality, development, marketing and sales, according to a news release. Before joining Discovery Land Company, she held senior leadership positions at Related Companies and Access Industries/Faena Group, the release said. She also founded development and investment advisory firm Chrysos Partners.
Over her career, Goldstein has been involved in more than $30 billion worth of projects around the world. Recently, she led the repositioning of Playa Grande Golf & Ocean Club and Amanera resort in the Dominican Republic on behalf of Third Point, according to the release.
In her new role, Goldstein will continue to oversee Playa Grande, as well as projects in Hobe Sound, New York and Puerto Rico.
