Enterprise browser developer Island raises $400M at $6.4B valuation

Island Inc., a startup with a browser optimized for the enterprise market, today announced that it has raised $400 million in late-stage funding.

Evolution Equity Partners led the Series F round. It was joined by J.P. Morgan, Sequoia Capital, Georgian and other institutional backers. Island is now valued at $6.4 billion, a $1.8 billion increase from its last raise.

Knowledge workers use Island’s browser to access their companies’ cloud-based business applications. The software blocks malware-laden webpages, phishing emails and other threats. It also mitigates user-side cybersecurity issues. Island can be configured to block login requests from insecure workstations and Wi-Fi networks.

The software-as-a-service applications that a company uses don’t always meet its cybersecurity requirements. For example, a service might lack an authentication mechanism that a bank often implements in its custom software. Island says that its browser addresses such gaps. It can overlay customer-created cybersecurity features on a cloud application’s interface.

Island’s ability to extend third party services also has other benefits. According to the company, enterprises can create automation workflows that speed up repetitive tasks for workers.

Island collects telemetry on users’ application interactions. That data makes it possible to detect unauthorized activity such as attempts to copy information to an untrusted service. Furthermore, Island can point out opportunities to improve the user experience of an organization’s applications.

The company’s browser is based on Chromium, the open-source project that underpins Chrome. Workers who prefer Google LLC’s browser or another consumer-optimized alternative can access Island’s features via an extension. Furthermore, the company offers an endpoint client called Island Desktop. It can be used to secure the programs that workers run on their devices.

Last month, Island expanded its feature set with a set of capabilities designed to secure artificial intelligence workloads. The platform can now create an inventory of the AI agents used by an organization’s employees. It also maps out the MCP servers, files and browser extensions that those agents use.

Island blocks AI tools that pose a cybersecurity risk. It also protects authorized workloads by filtering malicious prompts and removing overly broad access permissions.

According to the company, its platform doubles as a cost optimization tool. The software logs the inference expenses associated with employee agents. It analyzes the data to find unused AI tools and tasks that can be offloaded from pricey frontier models to lower-cost alternatives.

“Enterprises are rethinking the basic architecture of work,” said Richard Seewald, founder and managing partner of Evolution Equity Partners. “Island meets the moment with a unique advantage: it can see and govern what people and agents are doing as they interact with applications and data, wherever that happens.”

Island will use its new funding to accelerate product development and go-to-market initiatives. The company reportedly plans to hire 500 employees by mid-2027 to support the effort.
