Howard Hughes names Kaminski President of Arizona region

Howard Hughes Communities, the real estate platform of Howard Hughes Holdings Inc., has promoted Kate Kaminski to president of its Arizona region, the company announced on Thursday.

In the role, she will oversee strategy, investment, development and operations for Teravalis, a 37,000-acre, master-planned community in Buckeye, Arizona entitled for up to 113,000 homes.

Kaminski succeeds longtime industry executive Charley Freericks in a planned leadership transition. Freericks, who has been leading the Arizona region and the early stages of Teravalis, will remain with Howard Hughes Communities as a senior advisor focused on long-range initiatives and new opportunities, according to the announcement.

Kaminski joined Howard Hughes in 2024 as chief operating officer of the Arizona region. Working alongside Freericks, she has helped build out a local team, deepen technical capabilities and expand relationships across the Greater Phoenix business community. She was recently appointed to the Greater Phoenix Economic Council’s board of directors, connecting Howard Hughes with public- and private-sector leaders focused on business attraction and regional economic growth.

“When we brought Charley and Kate to Howard Hughes Communities a few years ago, we had this transition in mind,” David O’Reilly, CEO of Howard Hughes, said in the announcement. “Charley has helped establish a strong foundation for Teravalis, and Kate has earned the opportunity to build on it.”

The leadership change comes as Howard Hughes moves from early-stage planning and infrastructure at Teravalis into more active residential and future commercial development. The community is envisioned to include multiple residential villages, employment centers, commercial space, schools, services and amenities designed to support long-term population and job growth on the western edge of the Phoenix metro.

Floreo, the first residential village at Teravalis, opened for home sales in late 2025 and is now welcoming residents. The village is planned for about 8,500 homes, with seven homebuilders currently active, according to the company. Ongoing infrastructure work and planning for future employment and commercial districts are intended to support the next phases of residential absorption and nonresidential demand.

“Teravalis represents an extraordinary opportunity to build something the Phoenix MSA has never had at scale,” Kaminski said in the release. “As we welcome our first residents, our responsibility is to deliver on the promise of this community. That means planning for the homes, employment, schools, services and gathering places that support everyday life.”

Kaminski brings more than two decades of executive experience in real estate investment, land development, corporate strategy, capital markets and operations. Before joining Howard Hughes, she spent nearly 20 years at Walton Global, ultimately serving as global chief operating officer, according to the announcement. That background aligns with the capital-intensive and staged nature of building out a large master planned community such as Teravalis.

“Kate understands the business, cares about this team, and brings the perspective and energy to lead its next stage of growth,” Freericks said.
