About 100 Finally employees are joining the San Francisco-based acquirer that is expanding into the small business market
Just two years ago, Miami-based fintech Finally was making headlines for securing $200 million in fresh financing. Now, its bookkeeping business has a new owner, and the buyer is taking a decidedly different approach to building a financial services company.
San Francisco-based Inkle, an AI-powered accounting and tax firm, has acquired Finally’s bookkeeping division in an all-cash transaction. The deal brings approximately 100 employees across Miami, Boca Raton, New York, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic into Inkle’s operations, along with a customer base of U.S. small businesses.
Founded in 2018 by Felix Rodriguez, Glennys Rodriguez, and Edwin Mejia, Finally’s ambition was to become a one-stop shop for small business finances, combining bookkeeping with expense management, banking, and other financial tools. In September 2024, the company announced a $50 million Series B round alongside a $150 million credit facility, bringing its cumulative equity and debt financing commitments to $305 million. Yet on September 8, 2026, Finally’s operating company, Backoffice.co, Inc., entered an Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors, a process used to wind down a business. That same day, Inkle acquired its bookkeeping customer base, team, and related assets.
According to Inkle’s account of the transaction, existing bookkeeping customers will continue working with their current teams under the new owner.
For Inkle, the acquisition represents a significant expansion of its U.S. footprint, particularly among traditional small businesses such as restaurants, contractors, clinics, and professional services firms.
“We expect to grow our U.S. team, including in South Florida, as we expand into the small-business market,” Anand Krishna, Inkle’s co-founder and CEO, told Refresh Miami. “Customers will continue working with their existing bookkeeping teams.”
Inkle says it has reached profitability after raising just $1.5 million in pre-seed capital. Following the acquisition, Inkle serves more than 2,000 customers and generates over $5 million in annual revenue, according to Krishna.
Founded by Krishna and Ranvir Singh, Inkle has built its business around a simple premise: small business owners are generally less interested in buying accounting software than in having someone take care of their accounting.
“Small businesses don’t want another subscription. They want their books, taxes, and compliance done right, on whatever platform they already use,” Krishna shared.
That philosophy is shaping Inkle’s business model. The company offers its own accounting software, Inkle Books, for free, while charging for bookkeeping, tax, and compliance services that combine AI tools with licensed accounting professionals.
According to Krishna, Inkle Books automatically categorizes approximately 90% of transactions, although an accountant still reviews every monthly close. That allows individual bookkeepers to serve substantially more businesses than they could using conventional methods, he explained.
The goal is to automate repetitive accounting work while keeping experienced professionals responsible for delivering the service. With the addition of Finally’s teams, Inkle also gains around-the-clock operational coverage across the Americas and Asia.
Krishna has considerable ambitions for what this model could become.
“We’re building the AI-powered Big Four: a CPA firm where frontier AI and experienced professionals deliver the outcome, not just the software.”
