JetBlue Business Card Review – Pays Off for Owners Who Fly JetBlue and Check Bags

JetBlue Business Card
Our Rating
3.5/5

JetBlue Business Card

  • Best for: Business owners who fly JetBlue for work and check bags
  • What Sets It Apart: No first-bag fee for you and up to three companions; Group 3 boarding; 6X points on JetBlue purchases
  • Cost: $99 annual fee; 19.74% to 29.74% variable interest rate; no foreign transaction fees
  • Features: 50,000 bonus points for spending $4,000 in the first 90 days, with the fee paid off by then; 5,000 points each account anniversary; 10% of the points back after JetBlue flights booked with points
  • Pros: First-bag savings of $45 to $59 per bag each way; employee cards with no added fee; employee purchases earn points for your account
  • Cons: 1 point per dollar on most purchases; perks cover only your own trips; no lounge access or companion fare; slow path to Mosaic status

The JetBlue Business Card is the business version of Barclays’ personal JetBlue Plus Card, and it’s open to sole proprietors, side businesses included. Unlike the Plus Card, it earns 2X points at office supply stores instead of grocery stores and adds Group 3 boarding, ahead of general boarding.

Key Features

  • $99 annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, and a variable interest rate of 19.74% to 29.74% on balances you carry
  • 50,000 bonus points for spending $4,000 in the first 90 days, with the $99 fee paid off by then
  • 6X points on JetBlue purchases, 2X at office supply stores and restaurants, and 1X elsewhere
  • No first-bag fee for you and up to three companions on tickets bought with the card
  • For business purchases only, with the owner personally liable for the balance

Pros

  • Savings of $45 to $59 per first checked bag each way on domestic economy fares
  • Group 3 boarding for you and up to four companions on your reservation
  • 5,000 bonus points each account anniversary, plus 10% of the points you redeem for a JetBlue flight returned after you fly
  • Employee cards with no added fee, and their purchases earn points for your account

Cons

  • 1 point per dollar on most purchases, each worth about 1.3 cents toward flights in the points blog Frequent Miler’s estimate
  • Bag and boarding perks for your own trips only, not employees flying without you
  • No lounge access or companion fare (the $499 JetBlue Premier Card adds lounge access)
  • Slow climb to Mosaic elite status, whose first level takes 50 tiles (JetBlue’s status credits) a year, or $50,000 of card spending alone at 1 tile per $1,000

The card pays off on a single domestic economy round trip with a colleague, since first-bag fees for the two of you would total at least $180, $81 or more above the $99 fee. Put company spending outside JetBlue, restaurants, and office supply stores on a business card paying 2% cash back, which beats 1 point per dollar worth about 1.3 cents in flights.
