Mystery buyer of Golden Beach mansion has the town talking. Is it Jeff Bezos?

The $69.5 million record sale of an oceanfront mansion in Golden Beach has the town talking about one likely buyer: billionaire Jeff Bezos.

Last month, a company managed by spec home developer Ricardo Halfen sold the 17,500-square-foot estate at 255 Ocean Boulevard to a Delaware LLC that hides the identity of the true buyer. Agents and other sources in the town told The Real Deal the Amazon founder is the buyer.

Bezos, who owns a compound on the ultra-exclusive Indian Creek Island, would probably use the home as a beach house, sources said.

The seven-bedroom, 12-bathroom house sits on a 0.7-acre lot with a guest house, pool, spa and 100 feet of waterfront. The sale marks a record for single-family homes sold in Golden Beach, although tech founder Phillip Ragon spent more on a trio of properties in 2022.

Douglas Elliman’s Dina Goldentayer had the listing for the property, which was most recently asking $79.5 million. Hillary Hertzberg and Jill Eber of the top-ranked Jills Zeder Group at Coldwell Banker represented the buyer.

Goldentayer and Hertzberg declined to comment. Eber did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The seller, Halfen, also did not respond to a request for comment.

The house hit the market in February for $88.5 million.

The seller, an affiliate of Treo Construction, paid $10.7 million for the property in 2021. The seller’s company is managed by Tania Van Dam Murciano and Halfen, CEO of Treo Construction. A trust managed by Lorena Zuccolillo, the daughter of late Paraguayan businessman Aldo Zuccolillo, sold the property to the Treo affiliate.

Bezos spent a combined $234 million to acquire three waterfront properties in Indian Creek between 2023 and 2024. In 2022, his parents, Mike Bezos and the late Jackie Bezos, purchased two waterfront homes in Coral Gables for $78 million.

Bezos is among the wealthiest billionaires investing in ultra-luxury real estate in South Florida. They also include Ken Griffin, Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Earlier this year, a hidden buyer paid $52.6 million to acquire a waterfront home and the lot next door at 387 and 395 Ocean Boulevard. The land totals 1.4 acres with 225 feet of ocean frontage. Goldentayer represented the buyer in that deal as well.
