Miami-based Palantir Technologies announced today that AIG’s Executiive Chairman and former CEO will lead financial services business globally.
Peter Zaffino, who was AIG CEO from 2021 until June 1 of this year, will step down from AIG on Sept. 15 and will join Palantir Jan. 15, 2027, as Global Head of Financial Services. He served as CEO from 2021 to June 1 of this year.
In his new role, Zaffino [pictured above] will drive growth across Palantir’s financial services business, including insurance companies, banks, asset managers, private equity firms, and other financial institutions. Zaffino, who brings more than 30 years of leadership across global financial services and insurance, has served as chief executive across three different organizations and has built a reputation as one of the industry’s most formidable operators and transformation executives, Palantir said in its announcement.
“Peter has spent his career challenging inertia and rejecting incrementalism within large enterprises. We partnered to deploy our products to create actual alpha within one of the most interesting and complex institutions in the world. We are fortunate that he is joining us,” said Karp, Palantir’s CEO, in a statement.
“The organizations that will lead in the future are those that are building durable AI infrastructure today,” added Zaffino. “I am incredibly excited to work with financial services organizations to transform their AI strategy into strategic advantage.”
Founded in Silicon Valley in 2003 by Alex Karp, Peter Thiel and others, Palantir moved to Denver in 2020, the same year it also went public on the NYSE. Then in February of this year, Palantir announced it was relocating its HQ to Miami, and worked in a co-working center in Aventura before moving to the Magic City. Palantir builds software used by defense agencies, intelligence teams, and large enterprises. Its AI-powered platforms help organizations make decisions with massive, complex datasets, the kind tied to national security, logistics, and industrial operations.
To be sure, the company relocations have been growing in Miami and the Sunshine State. Refresh Miami reported in January that Palantir’s co-founder and chairman, Peter Thiel, recently relocated his own investment firm, Thiel Capital, to Wynwood and also has a Miami residence. Citadel founder and CEO Ken Griffin, who moved his company from Chicago to Miami, and fellow billionaire Stephen Ross, who moved to Palm Beach County from New York, recently put $10 million into a new initiative by the Florida Council of 100 called Ambition Accelerated, with the aim of encouraging more CEOs and their companies to move to Florida.
