Why did fans think Usher wasn’t actually onstage? The singer finally responds

The internet has gone full conspiracy theory over whether—or not—Usher is sending a body double out onstage to perform with rapper Chris Brown during “The R&B Tour” concerts the two are co-headlining.

The debate first erupted on August 8, when concertgoer Sunnya Sultan posted a TikTok video that reads “that is NOT usher!” over an image of what appeared to be Usher performing “Caught Up” and “Bad Girl” at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

In that video, the singer’s face is partially hidden under a baseball cap and sunglasses, and some fans say the man appears to look and move differently than the performer.

“[That night] the real Usher . . . sang like half a song, maybe for like 40 seconds,” Sultan told Today.com. “Then he goes into this darkness and he comes out, and as he’s walking . . . everyone started getting confused because the way he was moving wasn’t really Usher.”

The next day, Usher addressed the rumors on the tour’s Instagram account, posting a video with the caption “Usure? Wesure” and text that reads: “They can’t clone this? How ya’ll come up with this? AI ain’t that advanced.”

Sultan’s video has since gone viral, garnering some 700,000 views on social media and nearly 2,000 comments that include everything from “I’m confused. I see Usher, but then I don’t” and “This guy looks slightly smaller than Usher though” to “Everyone needs a refund.”

It has also spurred a slew of other TikTok users who have piled on with their own video hot-takes, including: “Usher you can’t fool New York, that’s not you bro, I want my money back.”
