Daniel Dennis has been named president and CEO of Long & Foster Companies, returning to the HomeServices of America network, the company announced Monday.
Dennis succeeds Patrick Bain, who is stepping down after a 16-year career at Long & Foster, including the past three and a half years as president and CEO, according to the announcement.
Bain disclosed his plans to depart earlier this year, giving the company time to run a formal search and structure a transition. He and Dennis will work together over the coming weeks as part of that process, the companies said.
Dennis most recently served as senior vice president of sales and service at REMAX, which was recently acquired by The Real Brokerage, where he worked with brokerage leaders nationwide and oversaw teams focused on recruiting, brokerage and agent support, growth and expansion.
He previously spent more than a decade leading Roberts Brothers, a HomeServices of America brokerage in Alabama. He later served as president of Illustrated Properties in South Florida, overseeing a prominent luxury real estate operation in that market.
“Daniel brings an exceptional combination of brokerage leadership, experience building teams and businesses, luxury expertise and a broad national perspective on where our industry is headed,” Chris Kelly, president and CEO of HomeServices of America, said in the announcement. “Just as importantly, he has tremendous respect for Long & Foster and the strength of its brand.”
In addition to its residential brokerage, the Long & Foster family of companies offers mortgage, title, insurance, inspection, property management and other services tied to the homeownership lifecycle. The firm is a founding affiliate of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World and participates in Luxury Portfolio International and Forbes Global Properties.
As president and CEO, Dennis will oversee Long & Foster’s residential brokerage and work with regional and local leaders, as well as executives across its affiliated businesses. His early priorities include spending significant time in the field with agents, employees and local leadership, and building on the company’s market positions, culture and 55-plus-year legacy.
“Long & Foster is an iconic company with an extraordinary history, but what excites me most is the opportunity in front of us,” Dennis said in a statement. “The strength of this brand, the talent of its agents and employees, and the capabilities we can bring together with HomeServices create an incredible foundation for the future.”
The leadership change comes as large regional brokerages reassess their strategies amid margin pressure, increased competition from low-cost and virtual models, and ongoing commission litigation and regulatory scrutiny. Many firms are leaning more heavily into ancillary revenue streams and technology investments to support agents and diversify income.
“Real estate is changing quickly, and that creates tremendous opportunity for companies with strong brands, great people and the willingness to evolve,” Kelly said. “Daniel understands both what is worth protecting about this company and where we have the opportunity to take it next.”
